Brazil cotton exports hit all-time high in 2024/25 season

Brazil’s 2024/25 cotton crop is wrapping up with record exports, according to data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea).

Data from Secex analyzed by Cepea show that from August 2024 through the fourth week of July 2025, Brazil shipped 2.82 million tonnes. This volume is 5% higher than what was exported over the entire previous season (2.68 million tonnes), which was the previous record in Secex’s data series.

In the domestic market, Cepea surveys show that cotton lint prices continue to fluctuate, reflecting a “tug of war” among market participants.

Some sellers are showing more flexibility on pricing, but mills are offering even lower values. Moreover, the difficulty in approving available batches is also limiting liquidity.

Due to delays in harvesting and ginning during the 2024/25 season, researchers explain that many players are prioritizing the fulfillment of forward contracts, especially since many of those were signed at more attractive prices than those currently seen in the domestic spot market.
