Log-In Logística Integrada, through the Vila Velha Port Terminal (TVV), began an unprecedented operation on Wednesday (30) at the Capuaba port complex, part of the Organized Port of Vitória (ES), managed by Vports. For the first time, a Panamax-class vessel, with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 83,000 and no onboard crane, is being unloaded at the terminal. The operation is being carried out in partnership with the consultancy firm Cronos.
The vessel Legendary Diva, represented by Orion Rodos and arriving from China, brought a shipment of 33,000 tonnes of fertilizer. It is being unloaded at berth 202 in the Vports area using the TVV’s mobile harbor cranes (MHCs), currently the only equipment in Capuaba capable of handling this type of operation.
According to Gustavo Paixão, Terminal Director at Log-In, the operation with a Panamax vessel lacking onboard cranes is a direct result of the modernization efforts carried out at TVV in recent years. “The terminal underwent a cycle of infrastructure renewal, expansion of the back area, implementation of new technologies, and acquisition of large-scale operational equipment such as MHCs. These improvements have significantly increased the terminal’s productivity and enabled increasingly complex and large-scale operations,” he said.
Mooring regulations adjusted by Vports to enable operation
The groundbreaking operation also required adjustments to the mooring regulations at the Port of Capuaba, carried out by Vports. These changes included raising the allowable deadweight limit from 70,000 to 83,000 tonnes and revising minimum daily productivity requirements.
Another key development that enabled larger ships to access the Vitória port complex was the dredging of the channel, conducted between April and May of this year. The dredging ensured a maintained depth of 12.5 meters and required an investment of R$30 million.
“Previously, the deadweight limit was 70,000 tonnes. Today, it’s 83,000. We’ve been working to increase Espírito Santo’s port logistics capacity, enabling the Port of Vitória to receive larger vessels. Now, we are seeing the results with the arrival of the first vessel operating under the new capacity. This change allows for the servicing of bulk carriers and general cargo ships more efficiently, boosting our cargo handling capabilities,” said Gustavo Serrão, CEO of Vports.
Impact on Espírito Santo’s logistics and economy
The operation represents a strategic advancement for Espírito Santo’s logistics chain, providing a new alternative for the flow and receipt of solid bulk cargo. The handling of fertilizers has a direct impact on the agribusiness supply chain, especially in crops such as coffee, which has a strong presence in the state’s economy.
According to Paixão, by enabling more agile and robust logistics operations, the terminal contributes to the efficiency of supply chains and the strengthening of Espírito Santo’s port infrastructure. “TVV now presents itself as a complete solution. We have the structure, safety, agility, and a suitable regulatory environment to handle large-scale bulk cargo operations. This is a milestone for us, for the Port of Vitória, and for the entire state of Espírito Santo,” Paixão concluded.
