Port of Fortaleza starts fruit harvest exports with first shipment to Europe

The Port of Fortaleza has launched its annual fruit harvest export season, which will run until the end of December. This year, shipment volumes of melons, mangoes, grapes, and watermelons to the European market are expected to increase.

The first vessel of the season, the Kourou—a French-flagged ship operated by CMA CGM, measuring 190 meters in length and 31 meters in width—is docked at berth 106 and will depart this Thursday, the 7th, for the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

According to CMA Terminals, a CMA CGM subsidiary and the interim operator of the Port of Fortaleza’s container terminal, 410 containers of fruit have already been loaded, while another 915 empty containers have arrived to be gradually filled over the next two weeks.

The seasonal supply increase, which traditionally begins in September, will also impact logistics. Starting next month, two ships per week will operate on the Fortaleza–Europe route, doubling the current frequency. The reinforced operation will continue until December, in line with the harvest peak.
