Brazil’s pork exports up 12.9% in 2025 despite July slowdown

Brazilian pork exports (including both fresh and processed products) totaled 848.8 thousand tonnes between January and July 2025, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). This figure is 12.9% higher than the total recorded in the same period in 2024, which was 752.1 thousand tonnes.

In terms of revenue, the accumulated increase was 26.7%, with US$2.039 billion recorded in the first seven months of 2025, compared to US$1.609 billion in the same period the previous year.

Considering only the month of July, 126.8 thousand tonnes were exported—8.3% less than in the same month last year, when 138.3 thousand tonnes were shipped.

However, revenue for July grew by 2.2% year-on-year, reaching US$316.1 million this year, compared to US$309.4 million in July 2024.

The Philippines, Brazil’s leading destination for pork exports, imported 31.5 thousand tonnes in July, a volume 15.8% higher than in the same month last year, when it imported 27.2 thousand tonnes. Next were Chile, with 14.5 thousand tonnes (+38.2%), China with 11.9 thousand tonnes (–39.4%), Japan with 9.2 thousand tonnes (–18.9%), Vietnam with 6.7 thousand tonnes (+20.5%), Singapore with 6.1 thousand tonnes (–45.7%), Mexico with 6.1 thousand tonnes (+8.8%), Hong Kong with 6.1 thousand tonnes (–42.6%), Uruguay with 5.3 thousand tonnes (+6.7%), and Argentina with 3.2 thousand tonnes (+722.1%).

“There has been a notable restructuring in Brazil’s pork export flow in 2025. Whereas we previously relied more heavily on a single destination, we now see a more balanced distribution, with relatively proportional volumes across importing countries. This will allow the sector to maintain a sustainable export flow throughout the year, with positive projections for year-end results,” said ABPA president Ricardo Santin.

Santa Catarina, Brazil’s largest pork-exporting state, shipped 64.5 thousand tonnes in July, a 14.5% decrease compared to the previous year. It was followed by Rio Grande do Sul with 29.3 thousand tonnes (–3%), Paraná with 18.8 thousand tonnes (+1.9%), Minas Gerais with 3.4 thousand tonnes (+4.1%), and Mato Grosso with 2.8 thousand tonnes (–27.3%).
