Cargo Ship Breaks Free After Mooring Lines Snap at Brazil’s Itajaí Port, Emergency Protocol Activated

On Wednesday morning (27) at around 6:50 a.m., the mooring lines of the vessel Vicente Pinzón, docked at a leased quay in the Port of Itajaí, broke, causing the ship to come loose and prompting a large-scale emergency response.
The strength of the current pulled the vessel away from the quay, requiring immediate mobilization of security teams.

Following emergency protocols, workers were removed from the risk area, and tugboats were deployed to stabilize the vessel.

Shortly after, the pilotage service took command of the maneuver and safely carried out the unberthing of the cargo ship.

According to port authorities, no injuries were reported, and the situation was fully brought under control after joint action by the operations team, tugboats, and pilotage service.
In a statement, the terminal stressed that it maintains rapid-response procedures for emergency cases to ensure the safety of workers, the port community, and navigation.
