Brazil exported 3.744 million tonnes of sugar and molasses in August, down 4.5% from the same month in 2024, when shipments totaled 3.921 million tonnes. Export revenue fell 16.1% year-on-year, from US$1.790 billion to US$1.501 billion. The average price per tonne dropped 12.2%, from US$456.60 to US$401.00.

The data was released on Thursday by the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), part of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC).

The survey takes into account 21 business days, compared with 22 business days in August 2024. Adding the August results to the consolidated figures from Agrostat — the statistical system for Brazilian agribusiness foreign trade — the country has already exported 20.196 million tonnes of sugar in 2025. The volume represents a 17.3% decline compared with the first eight months of 2024, when 24.414 million tonnes were shipped. Revenue also fell in the period, down 26.6% from US$12.076 billion to US$8.862 billion.
