Brazil’s beef industry, the world’s largest exporter of the product, has the capacity to reallocate shipments that previously went to the United States and is expected to grow between 12% and 14% in export volumes in 2025 compared to last year, said Abiec president Roberto Perosa on Wednesday.

“Despite tariffs and geopolitical issues, Brazilians—especially the livestock sector—have a strong ability to adapt and redirect their products,” Perosa said during the Brazil Livestock Forum, organized by the consultancy Datagro.

Last year, Brazil sold 2.89 million tonnes of beef to around 150 countries, totaling US$12.9 billion.

At an event last week, he had already said that Brazil’s beef exports in 2025 should grow 12% in volume compared to 2024.

In addition to steady global demand for beef, Perosa also highlighted that Brazil remains competitive and is able to keep part of its shipments to the U.S., despite the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump.

“Losing our second-largest market makes a difference. But surprisingly, even with the 76.4% tariff (the U.S. applies to beef), exports to the U.S. still exist because of the competitiveness we’ve achieved,” he said during the opening of the event.

Even so, he noted that the sector must continue pressing the Brazilian government to negotiate with the U.S. for the removal of the higher tariff.

He stressed that the U.S. market is highly profitable and demanding, “and it makes a difference.”

In terms of revenue, Abiec projects that Brazilian beef exports could grow by up to 16% in 2025 compared to 2024.

Perosa also stated that the industry anticipates new market openings to sustain growth.

“There are still three strategic markets to reach; at the beginning of the year, there were four. Vietnam was recently opened, and new approvals are on the way.”

He said Brazil is still working to open Japan, Turkey, and South Korea, “which are highly profitable markets.”
