The 229th ordinary meeting of the Executive Management Committee of the Foreign Trade Chamber (Gecex-Camex), linked to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, approved on Tuesday (23) a reduction in import tariffs for 15 products not produced in Brazil.
According to the committee, these products are crucial for various production chains in the country and contribute to the competitiveness of the national industry.
Among the items with reduced import rates are a specific type of lithium-ion battery (rate cut from 18% to zero); a resuscitation system that performs automatic chest compressions (12.6% to zero); a specific type of electrical connector for soldering cables onto printed circuit boards (16% to zero); and high-hardenability chrome-molybdenum steel tubes (14.4% to zero).
The full list of products with reduced tariffs can be seen here.
The Executive Committee also approved the renewal of protective measures for the national industry against import surges caused by the current international context. For another 12 months, higher import duties will remain in place for 30 types of chemicals, two types of paperboard, and one type of passenger car tire.
Gecex also decided to renew trade defense measures on low-carbon flat-rolled steel, stainless steel flat-rolled steel, and fresh or refrigerated garlic.
According to the committee, in the first case (low-carbon flat-rolled steel), the measure was renewed for products originating from South Korea and China.
In the second case (stainless steel flat-rolled steel), for China and Chinese Taipei. In the third case, for garlic imported from China, with the exception of Chinese companies that committed to the Brazilian government to sell the product at prices that do not undermine national competitiveness.
