After authorization was granted on Tuesday for dredging the external channel of Babitonga Bay, with R$333 million earmarked for works and supervision, the Santa Catarina Bulk Terminal (TGSC) is set to be the next major investment to come online in the port complex of São Francisco do Sul, which also includes Itapoá. The TGSC, a privately operated terminal, is expected to begin operations by the end of the year. In addition to the ports currently operating in São Francisco do Sul and Itapoá, Santa Catarina also has port terminals in Itajaí, Navegantes, Imbituba, and Laguna.
With an investment of R$520 million, the terminal is located at Morro Bela Vista, near the Port of São Francisco do Sul. Equipment is currently in the testing phase. The new terminal will launch with an annual handling capacity of 6 million tonnes of grains, with potential for future expansion. Its main focus will be grain exports. The facility will feature a 255-meter-long pier with two berths.
The TGSC includes 980 meters of conveyor belts with a capacity of up to 2,000 tonnes per hour. Storage capacity in the back area will be 135,000 tonnes of bulk cargo, divided between a horizontal warehouse and six vertical silos. Additional ports are planned for São Francisco do Sul and Itapoá, but they remain in the licensing phase and have not yet begun construction.
