Brazil exported approximately 6,000 tonnes of bananas in August 2025, a 35% decrease compared to July, when 9,000 tonnes were shipped, according to Comex Stat. The main destinations for Brazilian bananas were Argentina and Uruguay, which accounted for 94% of total exports, and their orders decreased by 28% and 13% month-on-month, respectively.

The decline in shipments is linked to the reduced supply of nanica bananas — the main variety exported — not only in northern Santa Catarina, the largest exporting region to Mercosur, but also in other producing areas in the South and Southeast. As a result, domestic prices of nanica bananas have risen. The trend is for exports to shrink even further in the coming months, as the low supply of nanica bananas is expected to persist until early next year.
