Portos do Paraná launches R$29 million upgrade of liquid bulk pier

The expansion and upgrading works of the Public Liquid Bulk Pier (PPGL) will begin next week, with completion scheduled for May 2026. The activity schedule, released this Wednesday (24) at a meeting that brought together technicians from the terminals operating at the public pier, representatives of the construction company, and Portos do Paraná, was designed to ensure minimal interference with the docking and undocking of ships.
In total, R$29 million will be invested. The work will start with the restructuring of the access bridge pavement. Next, piling will begin for the construction of a new dolphin (fixed port structure) for mooring and docking ships. The scope also includes a new structure for lifting and organizing hoses (flexible hoses for transporting liquid material), upgrades to the lighting and electrical systems, installation of a laser docking and monitoring system, and replacement of fenders — structures that minimize the impact of vessels during maneuvers.
“This project aims to improve safety to ensure that larger ships can dock securely, further reducing the risks of accidents during docking and undocking maneuvers,” explained Julia Teresa Bruch, Coordinator of Signaling, Buoying, and Monitoring.
The construction of the new dolphin will be carried out simultaneously with vessel operations at berths 141 and 142, to avoid supply shortages in the state of Paraná. “We discussed safety measures with all the sectors involved at Portos do Paraná and with the construction company responsible for the work. Only during docking and undocking will the barges being used for the dolphin construction be removed, with the support of a tugboat, and then work will resume,” detailed the coordinator.
Operational windows of seven to nine days are being scheduled, during which the PPGL will not be able to receive any vessels. During this period, work will be carried out 24 hours a day. The removal of ships is necessary because workers will be using equipment that generates heat, sparks, or flames.
“We are aware of the expectations of the terminals for the start of the project, but we also understand the importance of ongoing operations at the current structure. That is why we gathered agents and operators to present the work dynamics, in order to minimize operational windows. We want to share this schedule and these instructions so that all stakeholders are aligned,” said Renata Gusmão, Maritime Traffic Coordinator.
Renata also reported that Cattalini’s liquid bulk pier will not be affected and will continue operating normally during the works at the PPGL.
Berths 141 and 142 serve companies such as Petrobras/Transpetro, Liquipar, Cattalini, CBL, and Terin, which handle crude oil, diesel, methanol, and other fuels.
