Argentine beef exports hit 2025 high in August but trail record pace

Argentina’s beef exports recorded their best performance of 2025 so far in August. According to information from the Valor Di Carne site, shipments totaled 85,000 tonnes carcass weight equivalent (CWE), the highest monthly volume of the year and very close to the peaks of August and September 2024, when the country exported 86,000 and 89,000 CWE, respectively. The increase was supported by firmer international prices, currency appreciation, and temporary tax relief.

From the March low of just 52,000 CWE, shipments have grown steadily, reaching the August level. Despite the strong result, projections suggest that 2025 will end below the record of 930,000 CWE exported in 2024, since maintaining volumes close to 100,000 CWE per month through December is considered unlikely.
Main destinations
The increase compared to July (+5,100 tonnes) was driven mainly by China (+3,500 tonnes), followed by the European Union (+1,600 tonnes), the United States (+600 tonnes), and Chile (+500 tonnes). Exports to Israel remained stable, while Russia and Mexico fell (–200 t each).
Compared to August last year, shipments grew to the EU (+1,400 t), Israel (+500 t), and Brazil (+100 t), but fell to Mexico (–1,000 t), Chile (–400 t), and Russia (–300 t).
Average prices remained firm in August. Compared to July, shipments to China increased by 3%, while shipments to Israel remained stable. Declines ranged from 2% to 15% in other destinations, resulting in a weighted average decline of 1%.
On an annual basis, the results were significant, with China (+60%), the EU (+20%), Israel (+39%), Chile (+30%), and the US (+45%) representing an overall increase of 39%. The value reached in August was only 7% below the historic peak of April 2022.
Between January and August this year, Argentina exported 536,000 CWE, 12% less than in the same period of 2024. In the past 12 months, exports reached 858,000 CWE, matching the previous month’s total but 2% below the level a year earlier.
Despite August’s positive performance, the sector acknowledges that 2025 is unlikely to surpass last year’s record, according to Valor Di Carne.
