Week 202541

Brazil already plays a central role in BYD’s exports and has become one of the company’s main international destinations. Between August 2024 and August 2025, there were 105,330 new registrations, according to the company’s official data. This volume represented a 74% increase compared with the previous period, consolidating the Chinese automaker as the fastest-growing brand in the country.

The result highlights how Brazil has become a strategic pillar in the brand’s global expansion, amid the growing imports of electric and hybrid vehicles.

BYD exports expected to surpass 20% in 2025

Globally, the company projects that BYD’s exports will account for around 20% of sales in 2025. This would represent between 800,000 and 1 million units, within a revised target of 4.6 million vehicles. The information was reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), based on statements from company executives.

The revision of the global target—reduced by up to 16% compared with the original goal—reflects the impact of slower growth in China. As a result, BYD is focusing on external markets to sustain its expansion.

Domestic competition weighs on global performance

While exports are rising, China’s electric vehicle market is experiencing its most competitive phase yet. The intense rivalry is squeezing margins and forcing strategic adjustments. In this context, expanding BYD’s exports to countries such as Brazil, as well as growing in Europe and Southeast Asia, has become essential.

Geographic diversification is emerging as a key strategy to maintain production scale and global relevance despite the challenging environment in the domestic market.

Outlook for the electric vehicle market

BYD’s international expansion occurs amid trade tensions between the United States and China. This scenario opens opportunities in emerging markets. In Brazil, the environment is favorable thanks to its predominantly renewable energy matrix, which strengthens the economic and environmental appeal of electric vehicles.

According to the SCMP, the trend is for Brazil to consolidate itself as one of BYD’s largest markets outside Asia. In this context, the automaker’s exports are increasingly shaping the future of the global automotive sector.
