Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, met on Tuesday (30) with the president of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), Jorge Viana, to discuss opening the Chilean market to meatpacking plants in Acre and Rondônia. The agenda reinforces the federal government’s strategy to expand Brazil’s trade opportunities, with a special focus on the Amazon region.
During the meeting, actions were presented to improve the export flow of industries operating with pork and beef in Acre. Measures highlighted included strengthening Vigiagro, synchronizing operations between the Brazilian and Peruvian customs authorities, and renewing sanitary certificates—initiatives aimed at providing greater speed, efficiency, and security for regional meatpackers.
Minister Fávaro emphasized that joint work has strengthened Brazil’s international presence. “We are intensifying efforts, under President Lula’s leadership, to generate more opportunities for Brazil and Brazilians. We are now reinforcing exports via the bioceanic route through Acre, with Chile, Peru, and the Dominican Republic, in addition to renewing sanitary certificates. We will also strengthen Vigiagro and synchronize operations with Peruvian customs to streamline the process and make it faster and more efficient. And, with President Lula’s upcoming visits to Malaysia and Indonesia, we will seek the approval of Acre’s meatpacking plants, further expanding Brazil’s trade relations with the world,” he said.
Acre occupies a strategic position along the bioceanic route, being the Brazilian state closest to the Port of Chancay in Peru. This location strengthens Brazil’s connection with the Pacific, expanding access to markets such as Chile, Peru, and Asian countries.
In the coming days, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Minister Fávaro, Jorge Viana, President of ApexBrasil, and other government officials will participate in an official mission to Indonesia (October 23–24, in Jakarta) and Malaysia (October 25–26, in Kuala Lumpur). The agenda includes Economic Forums and the ASEAN Summit, aimed at mapping opportunities and discussing potential partnerships and investments between Brazil and Southeast Asian countries, which could open new doors for the animal protein sector.
ApexBrasil President Jorge Viana emphasized the importance of the agenda for Amazonian producers. “Fávaro and I discussed how to improve the export process in Acre, which borders Bolivia and Peru. The minister will soon be in the state to show that things will change significantly and to authorize meatpacking plants that process beef and pork for new markets. The minister has already opened more than 440 markets worldwide and continues to lead this mission,” he said.
The expectation is that, in addition to approving meatpacking plants from Acre and Rondônia for the Chilean market, the joint effort will also strengthen Brazil’s exports along other strategic routes.
