Brazil’s peanut exports hit record high in 2025

Brazil’s peanut exports reached a record volume in 2025, following a period of contraction in foreign sales. From January to August, more than 180,000 tonnes were exported, generating US$222 million in revenue, according to a survey by the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA – Apta) of the São Paulo State Department of Agriculture and Supply (SAA). The volume represents a 26% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

According to the IEA, “the current exported crop was made up of 100% of peanuts produced in São Paulo state.” The main destinations were Russia, with 22% of the total volume; China, with 21%; Algeria, with 11%; and the Netherlands, with 7%. The institute also highlighted a sharp rise in exports to China, which reached 35,000 tonnes in a short period.

Brazil’s total peanut production is currently estimated at around 1 million tonnes, destined for the confectionery and oil industries. The country’s performance keeps it in sixth place among the world’s largest exporters of high-quality peanuts.

Another highlight was the surge in peanut oil exports, which grew by more than 170% in the 2024/2025 season, totaling 98,000 tonnes. The product was shipped mainly to China, accounting for 87%, and Italy, with 13%.

The state of São Paulo remains the national leader in production, accounting for approximately 86% of the country’s total cultivated area. According to the IEA, São Paulo’s output exceeds 700,000 tonnes per year, with standout municipalities including Tupã, Marília, and Jaboticabal.
