Rail operations at the Port of Vitória set to begin later in 2025

The start of operations on the rail line connecting the Port of Vitória to the national network of the Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica (FCA), operated by VLI, is expected to begin later this year (2025), according to Vports CEO Gustavo Serrão. The operation will initially focus on transporting pig iron, with potential expansion into grain shipments in the near future.
The railway restoration works were completed in September 2024, representing an investment of around R$20 million. Since then, the port authority — controlled by Quadra Capital — has been seeking partnerships to kick-start operations.
The short rail segment connects the port to Brazil’s Central-West region and could significantly increase the port’s cargo volume — from approximately 9 million tons in 2024 to around 16 million tons by 2029.
Works to expand liquid bulk capacity
Under the management of a consortium formed by Vibra, Ipiranga, and Raízen, about R$300 million is being invested to expand the liquid bulk terminal at the Vports complex in Vitória. According to Serrão, the project should be completed within three years and will further boost cargo movement at the port complex.
