Brazil secures eight new export markets for products from ora-pro-nóbis to beef

Brazil opened eight new export markets this Tuesday, the 14th. Sanitary authorities from three countries informed the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) of their approvals for the import of various products. The information was confirmed to Estadão Agro by the Secretary of Trade and International Relations (SCRI), Luis Rua.
According to Rua, the newly opened markets are as follows:
Uruguay – for olive and eucalyptus seedlings, as well as ora-pro-nóbis (both for pharmaceutical use and consumption);
Saint Lucia – for poultry, pork, and beef meat and by-products (including offal);
Iran – for zucchini and watermelon seeds.
Diversification gives resilience to exports
Despite shifts in global trade flows due to U.S. tariff measures, the secretary said the impacts on Brazil’s agribusiness exports have been smaller than initially expected. According to him, the sector’s exports remain resilient.
“We intensified our market-opening efforts in response to these international issues, especially the U.S. tariff increase. In September — the first month potentially affected by the tariff measures — we recorded a 6.1% increase in export values. This demonstrates market diversification,” Rua told the publication.
He added that this “resilience of agribusiness” comes not only from opening new markets but also from expanding existing ones. “We talk about openings, but expansions are sometimes just as important,” he said, noting that since 2023, there have been more than 200 such expansions. He cited new beef plants authorized to export to Indonesia and several pre-listing agreements that streamline approvals.
The diversification strategy also includes supporting producers from sectors with smaller participation in the export market, Rua noted, citing the Caravana do Agro Exportador initiative — a series of events in inland cities that present public programs designed to facilitate exports.
“With these new openings, we’re opening the doors to markets. Now we’ll take producers by the hand and help them walk through those doors,” he concluded.
