The Public Security Secretariat of Itajaí held a meeting on Friday morning (24) with representatives from the Port of Itajaí and JBS Terminais to define measures to address the growing lines of trucks along Coronel Eugênio Müller and Irineu Bornhausen avenues. The meeting was attended by Public Security Secretary Ettore Stenghele, Codetran coordinator Leandro Ferreira, and City Councilor Pedro Molleri, representing the municipal legislature.
To reduce vehicle congestion in the area and mitigate potential public disturbance complaints, the municipality and the Port of Itajaí will work jointly to monitor and control truck lines. One of the measures, which entered into force on Friday, is the deployment of two port agents stationed directly in front of the terminal to verify scheduled appointment times for trucks and to direct drivers on whether they should wait in line.
An electronic License Plate Recognition (LPR) system installed by the logistics operator will complement the port agents’ work. The system, currently in testing, uses surveillance cameras installed along access roads to the Port of Itajaí. According to JBS Terminais, the LPR system is scheduled to be fully implemented in the second half of November.
To designate exit routes for trucks waiting to enter the port terminal, the Itajaí Traffic Department (Codetran) will install signage at strategic points along Irineu Bornhausen Avenue. Traffic officers will also step up on-site operations to guide drivers and ensure smoother traffic flow.
