Port operators urge swift review of megaterminal auction at Port of Santos

Companies involved in port operations at the Port of Santos have asked Brazil’s Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) to speed up its review of the documentation for the auction of the Santos 10 Container Terminal (Tecon), located at the Saboó quay.

In a memo sent to the Court, the São Paulo State Port Operators’ Union (Sopesp) stated that “the ongoing discussions are widely known and have delayed the completion of the bidding process.”

The document highlights the need for a thorough review of the process — clarifying the disputed points and competition issues involved — but requests that deliberation move more quickly.

“Speed and efficiency in the bidding process are indispensable elements, as they are principles that bring stability and trust to the procedure being conducted, increasing legal certainty for both the public administration and investors.”

According to the union, the industry has full confidence in the studies being conducted by the Court, “which are, evidently, the result of its customary diligence and legal expertise.”

The statement also notes that the megaterminal project planned for the Saboó area represents a major investment for the port sector and will significantly increase container handling capacity at the Port of Santos.
