Argentina’s recovery fuels surge in Brazilian exports to neighboring country

The recovery of Argentina’s economy is generating positive spillover effects in Brazil, particularly through stronger exports and a surge in Argentine tourism.
In the first half of the year, Brazilian exports to Argentina amounted to 0.8% of GDP — up from 0.5% in the same period of 2024. Government data show that shipments continued to rise between July and September, with exports to Argentina climbing 34.6% in the quarter, compared to a 4.7% increase in Brazil’s overall exports.
According to figures from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), Brazil exported US$14.2 billion in goods to Argentina from January to September, a 47.2% increase from the same period in 2024. After a 1.7% GDP contraction in Argentina last year, growth of about 4% is expected for 2025.
The calculations of Brazilian exports as a share of GDP were made by Francisco Pessoa Faria, an associate researcher at the Brazilian Institute of Economics of Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV Ibre).

Alongside the rise in exports, the flow of Argentine tourists to Brazil has also grown sharply, boosting foreign currency inflows. Faria estimates that Argentine travelers spent the equivalent of 0.2% of Brazil’s GDP on trips during the first half of the year, compared to 0.08% in the same period of 2024.
According to Embratur, Brazil’s federal tourism agency, 2.79 million Argentines visited Brazil between January and September — nearly double the 1.47 million recorded in the same months of 2024.
“The renewed economic dynamism in Argentina explains this year’s increase in Brazilian exports,” said Gustavo Pérego, a partner at Argentine consultancy Abeceb. “Last year, Argentina underwent a major economic reconfiguration, with a sharp downturn in the first half followed by a gradual recovery in the second.”
Brazil’s main exports to Argentina, Pérego added, are automobiles and auto parts.
