Brazilian port cargo movement in the third quarter of 2025 reached a historic record compared to the same period in previous years. According to a survey by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), using data from the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq), cargo movement in July, August, and September totaled 378.2 million tonnes, representing a 6% increase compared to the third quarter of 2024. Container cargo alone rose 6.5% in the period, reaching 42.5 million tonnes.
“The modernization of ports, combined with the adoption of sustainable practices, has increased port efficiency with environmental responsibility and improved the performance of operations in the country,” said the minister of MPor, Silvio Costa Filho, noting that the ministry recently launched the Sustainability Diagnostic, which maps ESG actions adopted by companies in the sector, and will present MPor’s environmental agenda at COP30, in Belém.
Considering the accumulated total from January to September, cargo movement has already reached 1.04 billion tonnes, indicating a 3.25% increase compared to the first nine months of last year. This cargo volume is also a record for the period and showed good performance in September, with an increase of 4.84% compared to the same month in 2024.
