With more than 187 years of experience, Wilson Sons has received the 2025 Sustainability Seal in the Diamond category, as determined by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) technical evaluation. The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday (11/12) in Belém, Pará. Receiving the MPor prize were Wilson Sons’ Legal and Institutional Relations Director, Roberta Carvalhal, Sustainability Manager, João David Santos, Sustainable Development Manager, Camila Felipe, and Safety, Environment and Climate Change Manager, Guilherme Silva.

The Sustainability Seal is a recognition and incentive for companies with good environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices that have joined the Sustainability Pact, established by Ordinance No. 58/2025. The pact aims to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to implement social and environmental programs aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.

According to MPor, the 63 companies enrolled in the program submitted action plans based on the pillars of environment, social development, and governance. Based on the evaluation, organizations received the seal in the Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Diamond categories. In this first edition, 36 were awarded across the different categories.

Wilson Sons has been adopting new technologies and sustainable practices, seeking to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in operations, as well as to consolidate social programs. The company has also been conducting various studies to implement innovations that reduce fuel and electricity consumption.

“With our participation in the pact and now the recognition of the Diamond Seal, we reaffirm Wilson Sons’ commitment to sustainability, reinforcing our strategy to apply the best ESG practices in business management,” says Wilson Sons CEO, Arnaldo Calbucci.

Sustainability Manager João David Santos points out that “the pact is a relevant initiative to strengthen Brazil’s competitiveness in the global market, promoting the sustainable development of the port sector.”

The event received institutional support from the National Confederation of Transport (CNT) and Infra S.A. The awards ceremony, held during the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), was attended by the National Secretary for Waterways and Navigation, Otto Burlier, the Sustainability Director of MPor, Larissa Amorim, and the Superintendent of Environmental and Territorial Management of Infra S.A., Bruno Marques.

100% renewable electricity and more sustainable tugboats

Cutting-edge technologies and new equipment used across Wilson Sons’ business units, such as the Towage division and the container terminals in Salvador (BA) and Rio Grande (RS), capable of handling the largest ships in the world, have made operations even safer, more efficient and less emission-intensive, contributing to the decarbonization of port and maritime logistics in Brazil.

Wilson Sons also built at its shipyard in Guarujá (SP), in the Santos port complex, six tugboats featuring more sustainable technology, delivered between 2022 and 2024, renewing its fleet of more than 80 vessels operating along the Brazilian coast. The innovative hull of the tugboats reduces greenhouse gas emissions, with an estimated reduction of up to 14% in fossil fuel consumption, helping improve air quality in the ports where they operate. In 2025, the company began, at its shipyard, the construction of a new series of three tugboats featuring sustainable technology and high power.

Among other decarbonization initiatives of the company are the use of shore power for tugboats (prioritizing renewable energy), fleet monitoring of tugboats at the Operations Center in Santos, optimizing transit speed, and, at the terminals, the purchase of 100% renewable electricity (Rio Grande) and the replacement of diesel equipment with electric equipment (Rio Grande and Salvador).
