São Sebastião Port resumes fertilizer handling with first export operation in its history

The Port of São Sebastião, on the northern coast of São Paulo, has begun storing MAP fertilizer (monoammonium phosphate), produced in Uberlândia (MG), which will be exported to the United States. This is the first fertilizer export operation in the port’s history, which traditionally handles sugar, wheat, and malt. The operation marks a new chapter in Brazilian port logistics. The last time this type of cargo passed through São Sebastião was in 2021, when the terminal received approximately 9 thousand tonnes of imported ammonium phosphate.
For the president of Companhia Docas de São Sebastião, Ernesto Sampaio, the export of fertilizers represents another step in diversifying the cargo handled by the terminal and reinforces the strategic role of the port for the São Paulo state economy.
“This operation shows the ability of the Port of São Sebastião to adapt and meet new market demands. We are opening doors for new opportunities and consolidating the port as an important logistics hub for agribusiness and national industry,” says Sampaio.
The operation is being handled by the Paraná-based group FTSpar, through the company Seaforte Operações Portuárias. By the end of this month, 30 thousand tonnes of the fertilizer produced by Mosaic, one of the world’s largest companies in the sector, are expected to be shipped.
“This is literally an ‘out of the box’ operation, for which we found a logistics solution through our port operator in São Sebastião, Seaforte. It is a milestone in Brazil’s fertilizer market, and other operations should take place in the coming months, and we are ready to customize this type of project with other players in the segment,” says Ricardo Collares, commercial director of FTSpar.
The initiative reinforces São Sebastião’s strategic role as an efficient logistics alternative on the São Paulo coast and its ability to handle high-value-added products, strengthening Brazil’s fertilizer export corridor.
“Another unprecedented operation that we are carrying out at the Port of São Sebastião. This demonstrates our commitment to the Port and the community, as well as to our customers, who expect the logistics solution they need from us. This is FTSpar in action in Brazilian port logistics,” says Rafael Moura, Business Development Director of the group.
