Coffee exports decline, but exporters’ profits rise in 2025

Brazilian coffee exports totaled 33.28 million bags between January and October 2025, a 20.3% drop compared to the same period last year, when 41.77 million bags were shipped. Despite the lower volume, export revenue rose 27.6%, reaching US$ 12.715 billion. The increase was driven by the international appreciation of the commodity, which offset the reduction in physical sales.

Arabica coffee accounted for 79.9% of total exports in the period, with 26.60 million bags. Conilon and robusta represented 10.5% (3.51 million bags), while soluble coffee reached 9.3% (3.11 million bags).

In October alone, shipments totaled 4.14 million bags, down 20% from the 5.17 million exported in the same month of 2024. Even with the decline, revenue grew 12.6%, from US$ 1.47 billion to US$ 1.65 billion. Arabica represented 79% of October sales (2.96 million bags), conilon/robusta 13% (489,680 bags), and soluble coffee 8% (290,000 bags).

The data comes from the October 2025 Monthly Report, prepared by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) and available through the Coffee Observatory, coordinated by Embrapa Café.

Main destinations and China’s surge

Germany led imports in October, with 609,500 bags (14.7% of the total). Next came Italy (360,730 bags), the United States (347,530), Japan (290,700), and Russia (241,960).

China rose to sixth place following a 176.42% increase, purchasing 221,780 bags. Belgium, Turkey, and the Netherlands follow, with Colombia closing the top ten after a sharp 308.40% rise to 101,630 bags imported.

Since the start of the additional U.S. tariff — between August and October — American purchases fell 51.5% compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 983,970 bags. Year to date, the drop is 28.1%. Even so, the United States remains the main destination for Brazilian coffee in 2025, with 4.711 million bags.

Specialty coffees gain ground

Between January and October, Brazil exported 6.58 million bags of specialty coffees — those with superior quality or sustainable certification — representing 19.8% of total exports. Sales generated US$ 2.8 billion in revenue. The United States remains the largest market for this segment, purchasing 1.06 million bags, followed by Germany (975,300) and Belgium (739,500).
