The Brazilian government has confirmed with Guatemala’s sanitary authorities the authorization for Brazil to export beef and its derivatives to Guatemala.

With around 18 million inhabitants, Guatemala imported more than US$192 million in Brazilian agricultural products between January and October 2025. Cereals led Brazil’s export basket in the period.

Last year, Guatemalans imported US$155.6 million in beef, equivalent to approximately 8.6% of domestic consumption.

The value represents a 122% increase compared with previous years, highlighting the market’s expansion potential.

The authorization comes at a time of strong performance for Brazilian livestock production.

Brazil remains the world’s largest beef exporter, with shipments exceeding US$12 billion in 2024, equivalent to 2.8 million tonnes destined for more than 150 markets. In 2025, the pace remains strong: by October, exports had already surpassed US$14 billion.

The opening of the Guatemalan market creates new opportunities, especially for frozen cuts, which account for more than 70% of the country’s imports in this segment. For Guatemala, the arrival of Brazilian beef contributes to greater supply stability, strengthening food security and expanding access for consumers and local industry to quality proteins.

With the announcement, Brazilian agribusiness has reached 500 new business opportunities opened since the beginning of 2023.

“Each market opening brings more income to rural areas, more opportunity for producers, and more recognition for our products. And all this while maintaining supply to the domestic market, which consumes about 70% of what we produce,” celebrated the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro.
