Fertilizer Imports Reach the Best Performance in the History of the Port of Itaqui

The Port of Itaqui closed 2025 with the best performance in its history in fertilizer handling. By November, 4.22 million tonnes had been imported, exceeding the annual target by 15% and recording an 18% increase compared to 2024.

The port’s strategic location, combined with efficient, results-oriented management, has consolidated Itaqui as one of the main supply hubs for inputs to Brazilian agribusiness.

In November alone, the port handled 578.1 thousand tonnes of fertilizers, the highest monthly volume ever recorded, surpassing the planned volume for the period by 20% and the result for the same month of the previous year by 26%.

This performance was decisive in establishing the segment’s historic advance.

According to the president of the Port of Itaqui, Oquerlina Costa, “another result has been built through planning, investments in infrastructure, and integration with the productive chain. We will continue working to keep the Port of Itaqui as a national reference in cargo handling and in supporting the development of Maranhão and Brazil.”

Supply chain diversification was also a key factor. Fertilizers arrived in Itaqui from different countries, with the leading suppliers being Russia (890.6 thousand tonnes), China (609.1 thousand tonnes), Egypt (558.9 thousand tonnes), Canada (367.1 thousand tonnes), and the United States (220.9 thousand tonnes). Other contributing countries included Morocco, Oman, Spain, Israel, and Vietnam.

The growth in fertilizer handling follows the expansion of national agricultural production and reinforces the logistical importance of the Northern Arc. With modern infrastructure and a privileged location, the Port of Itaqui ensures the agility of supplying inputs to producing states, strengthening Brazil’s competitiveness in the global market.
