Condensed Milk Exports Grow in Goiás and Boost the Dairy Industry

Goiás’ dairy sector has been consolidating as one of the most dynamic segments of agribusiness in Brazil’s Central-West, driven by the appreciation of higher-value-added products such as condensed milk, the expansion of exports, and strategic adjustments in response to a market marked by fluctuations. Official data and industry analyses point to a challenging scenario, yet there are consistent signs of strengthening among producers, cooperatives, and industries operating in the state.
A traditional staple on Brazilian tables, condensed milk maintains cultural and economic relevance—especially during festive periods—which contributes to relatively stable demand within the dairy chain. This characteristic has been decisive in the industry’s decision to invest in the product as an alternative to balance revenues and reduce exposure to volatility in the raw milk market.
Exports Gain Momentum and Expand International Presence
Between January and October 2025, Goiás exported 129.8 tonnes of condensed milk, generating revenues of US$302.4 thousand—an expressive increase compared with the same period of the previous year. The main destinations were the United States, Paraguay, and Argentina, with the U.S. market accounting for more than 86% of the shipped volume.
On a year-on-year basis, growth was significant: up 134.8% in volume and 117.4% in value, reinforcing the internationalization strategy adopted by part of Goiás’ industry. Experts note that these figures highlight the potential of dairy derivatives as competitive products in foreign trade, especially when combined with standardization, efficient logistics, and production scale.
Domestic Market Reflects Price Volatility
In the domestic market, dairy prices fluctuated throughout 2025. Reports from the Goiás Dairy Sector Market Bulletin indicate both positive and negative variations in derivatives, reflecting the balance between supply, demand, and production costs.
In September 2025, condensed milk prices fell 4.40% at wholesale, in line with the decline in the weighted index of dairy derivatives. In January, however, the product had recorded a slight increase of 0.02%, underscoring the sector’s characteristic instability. This environment requires constant planning by industries and producers.
Monitoring Ensures Predictability Across the Chain
According to Goiás’ Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Pedro Leonardo Rezende, systematic market monitoring is essential to reduce risks. “Continuous monitoring of the dairy chain ensures predictability for producers and industries, enabling quick adjustments in the face of fluctuations and strengthening the sector’s competitiveness in Goiás,” he said.
He added that the regular publication of data supports more assertive decision-making, especially in a sector sensitive to factors such as climate, input costs, and consumer behavior.
Structural Challenges Pressure Producers
Despite export growth and industrial diversification, the dairy sector still faces structural challenges. Milk price volatility, high production costs, and competition from imported products continue to pressure margins and demand operational efficiency.
For small and medium-sized producers, diversification has been a key strategy. In addition to condensed milk, products such as cheese, powdered milk, and specialty derivatives help balance revenues and reduce dependence on a single segment.
Goiás Bets on Technology and Value Addition
Strengthening Goiás’ dairy industry also involves investments in technology, productive efficiency, and value addition. Industry leaders believe this movement expands economies of scale and opens space for serving more demanding niches, both domestically and abroad.
Even amid international pressure and increased global supply of dairy derivatives, Goiás continues to expand its commercial presence. By transforming milk into industrialized products, the state strengthens its economic position, generates jobs and income, and consolidates the dairy sector as one of the strategic engines of Goiás’ agribusiness.
