The Port of Pecém closed 2025 consolidated as one of Brazil’s main export hubs for ornamental stones. With 77.48 thousand tonnes handled through October and a projection of reaching 90 thousand tonnes by year-end, the terminal recorded the highest annual volume in its history, boosting Ceará’s mining sector and strengthening the state’s position in the international market.

The milestone was reached this week with the arrival at Pecém of the vessel Larch Arrow, which loaded the final 9 thousand tonnes of blocks extracted in Brazil’s Northeast—the most significant export from Ceará in the past ten years. By comparison, 24.2 thousand tonnes were handled in 2018, while the previous record was set in 2022, with 68.3 thousand tonnes.

“The Port of Pecém has already consolidated itself as a strategic point for mining in the Northeast. What began with quarterly shipments has become a monthly flow that now supports the growth of projects in several states and should take throughput to as much as 90 thousand tonnes this year—another record to be set in 2025. Pecém’s expertise and efficiency, as a port capable of receiving blocks of up to 40 tonnes and loading more than 5,000 tonnes per day, have created a favourable environment for the entire sector. That is why we consider 2025 a historic year, marking the beginning of an expansion of this market, with China also in our sights,” said Max Quintino, president of the Pecém Complex.

In addition to Italy, the leading destination for the stones (55% of the total), countries such as China, the United States, Turkey, and Mexico are part of the international route for natural stones. With the record performance in the sector and the prospect of expanding its presence in strategic markets such as the Middle East, the Port of Pecém reinforces its logistical relevance and its role in advancing Ceará’s mining industry.

These operations are carried out by Tecer Terminais, one of the Port of Pecém’s operational service providers. According to Carlos Alberto Nunes, the company’s commercial director, the result reflects a pursuit of operational excellence. “We studied, invested, and adapted to achieve excellence in handling this type of cargo. The results are coming, and the expectation is that we will continue to see solid growth over the next ten years,” he concluded.
