Brazil is preparing a strategy to expand exports in 2026, focusing on strengthening trade ties with Canada, Mexico, India, the European Union and the United Arab Emirates, Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services Geraldo Alckmin said on Tuesday, the 6th.
According to data released by the ministry, Brazil’s exports totaled $348.7 billion in 2025, up 3.5% from $337 billion in 2024. Alckmin said the figures confirm a historic performance for the country’s trade balance. “The last three years represent the best results in the history of Brazil’s trade balance,” he said, noting that export volumes exceeded the previous record, set in 2023, by more than $9 billion.
The government is now working to sustain the pace of growth. Official projections point to export volumes ranging between $340 billion and $380 billion this year. Alckmin said expanding trade with Mexico and India will be central to achieving that target, even amid a global environment marked by heightened geopolitical instability. “We are optimistic that foreign trade will continue to grow,” he said.
Another pillar of the strategy involves advancing trade agreements. The minister again defended the formal ratification of the deal between Mercosur and the European Union’s 27 member states, as well as the conclusion of free trade agreements with the United Arab Emirates and Canada.
“The work under way aims to expand preferential tariff lines for exports. It is not full free trade, but we can significantly increase preferential trade,” Alckmin said.
