Orguel carried out a technical operation at the Port of Açu, in São João da Barra, Rio de Janeiro state, providing the articulated work platform used in the disassembly and reassembly of a clarifier in Anglo American’s iron ore filtration system. The operation was performed inside an industrial tank and required strict safety procedures for working at height and in confined spaces.

The intervention began with access to the interior of the tank using the articulated platform. The team then removed the clarifier’s fastening bolts, a phase that required additional effort due to oxidation and material buildup accumulated over long periods of operation. Once released, the equipment was lifted with the support of a crane in an operation that demanded close coordination between the crew positioned on the platform and the team responsible for handling the load.

Maintenance activities were carried out outside the tank, after which the clarifier was reinstalled and secured, allowing the system to resume normal operations. The articulated platform remained in place throughout the process to support the technical teams.

The clarifier plays a key role in the iron ore filtration system by reducing water turbulence inside the tank, accelerating the separation of solid particles and preventing sediment accumulation during the industrial process.

The Port of Açu is one of Brazil’s largest industrial and port complexes and a key hub for the logistics, mining, and oil and gas sectors. It is also positioned as a strategic platform for low-carbon projects. The clarifier plays a central role in iron ore filtration, reducing water turbulence inside the tank, accelerating the removal of solid particles, and preventing sediment buildup.
