Brazil coffee exports fall in 2025 but hit record revenue

Brazil exported 40.04 million 60-kg bags of coffee in 2025, down 20.8% from 2024, but export revenue reached a record $15.586 billion, up 24.1% year on year, data released on the 20th by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) showed.
The 2025 export revenue was the highest since Cecafé began compiling the series in 1990. Brazilian coffee shipments reached 121 countries during the year.
According to Cecafé President Márcio Ferreira, the record reflects higher coffee prices in 2025 and continued investment by the sector in quality.
“We saw higher monthly average prices in 2025, and our well-organized growers have continued to invest in technology, innovation and quality, which raises the standard of Brazilian coffee and, consequently, its value,” Ferreira said. “It is no coincidence that Brazil is the only origin capable of exporting to more than 120 countries, accounting for over one-third of global market share.”

Ferreira said the decline in export volumes had been expected, citing weather impacts and the record shipments posted a year earlier, which reduced inventories. “We exported a historic volume in 2024, which cut domestic stocks, and last year’s crop was affected by weather. That combination limited product availability,” he said.
He also pointed to the impact of 50% tariffs imposed by the United States on Brazilian coffee. “During nearly four months in which the tariffs were in place on all types of Brazilian coffee, from early August to late November — noting that instant coffee remains taxed — shipments to the United States fell 55%, largely due to these duties,” Ferreira said.
Germany was the largest destination for Brazilian coffee in 2025, importing 5.4 million bags. Despite a 28.8% drop from 2024, the volume accounted for 13.5% of Brazil’s total coffee exports during the year.
The United States, typically the top buyer, fell to second place as a result of the decline seen during the tariff period. U.S. imports totaled 5.3 million bags in 2025, or 13.4% of the total, down 33.9% from the previous year, according to Agência Brasil.
