Works to upgrade access roads to the Port of Antonina have surpassed 60% completion and are moving into a decisive phase. One stage of the project, led by Portos do Paraná, has already been completed, allowing partial traffic release on the new concrete roadway along Conde Matarazzo Avenue.

With total investment of R$ 21.9 million, the project goes beyond pavement rehabilitation. The scope includes new sidewalks, a bike lane, bus stops, road signage, and upgrades to the drainage system, improving both safety and functionality on the main access route to the port.

According to Victor Kengo, Portos do Paraná’s director of Engineering and Maintenance, the use of rigid pavement represents a significant structural gain for port logistics. “Concrete paving is far better suited to the heavy truck traffic accessing the Port of Antonina, offering greater safety and reducing long-term maintenance needs,” he said.

The new structure replaces the existing asphalt with reinforced concrete pavement, designed specifically to withstand the constant flow of trucks serving the port area. Construction began in July 2025 and has progressed steadily since then.

To ensure user safety during the works, traffic on Conde Matarazzo Avenue is operating under a stop-and-go system, supported by both manual and electronic signaling.

The intervention package also includes improvements to another key road in the city. According to Portos do Paraná’s engineering manager, Bruna Calloni, sidewalk installation has already begun in adjacent areas. “Once the avenue is completed, we will move on to the rehabilitation of Engenheiro Luiz Augusto Leão da Fonseca Street,” she said. Full completion of the works is scheduled for June 2026.

Oversight of the project is being carried out jointly by Portos do Paraná, the Municipality of Antonina, and a third-party company hired to provide technical support. The municipal government was also responsible for preparing the executive project and monitored the soil surveys conducted by the contracted firm.

In 2025, the Port of Antonina handled around 1.3 million tonnes of cargo, including bagged and bulk sugar, fertilizers, and other products. The terminal is part of the Portos do Paraná complex, the public authority that manages Brazil’s second-largest port system by cargo volume and has been named the country’s best port authority six times by the federal government.
