Certified Hereford Beef exports reach 263 tonnes in 2025 as domestic volume climbs

The Certified Hereford Beef Program (CHB) concluded 2025 with a 5.04% increase in overall volume, driven by a resurgence in Rio Grande do Sul and sustained growth in Santa Catarina. The year-end results underscore a strengthening trend for breed-specific certifications in Brazil, with cumulative expansion in some regions exceeding 30% over the last 24 months.

The state of Rio Grande do Sul, a traditional stronghold for the breed, reported an 8% growth in 2025. This figure marks a pivotal shift after several years of flat performance, signaling renewed producer engagement and higher market premiums for certified carcasses within the state.

In Santa Catarina, the program recorded a 3.7% increase, contributing to a significant 32% cumulative growth since the beginning of 2024. According to Felipe Azambuja, Executive Manager of the Brazilian Hereford and Braford Association (ABHB), the expansion in Santa Catarina is directly correlated with a rise in official breed registrations, suggesting that the beef certification program is acting as a catalyst for herd expansion in the region.

International demand continues to pivot toward identified-origin products, with Hereford exports totaling 263.31 tonnes in 2025. Shipments were diversified across high-value markets, including the Maldives, Portugal, Mexico, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, and Switzerland.

Operations focused on standardized cuts from both the hindquarters and forequarters to meet specific culinary and industrial requirements. Exported inventory included:

• Premium cuts: sirloin cap, ribeye, sirloin, and filet mignon.
• Specialized cuts: Flank steak, rump, eye of round, and chuck.

The consistency in standardized shipments highlights the program’s ability to navigate the stringent technical requirements of European and North American importers. As traceability becomes a non-negotiable factor in global trade, the 2025 figures position Hereford certification as a key benchmark for Brazilian premium beef competing in the international arena.
