Puerto Dock Sud closes 2025 with a 71% surge in container throughput

Puerto Dock Sud in Argentina recorded strong operational performance in fiscal year 2025, with a 71.15% increase in TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) throughput. In total, the port complex handled 11.54 million tonnes of cargo last year, an increase of 10.31% year on year.

The results reflect the modernization and infrastructure expansion schedule focused on foreign trade. Among the operational milestones of 2025, the start of quay expansion works in August stands out, following the removal of obsolete gantry cranes to make way for new, state-of-the-art equipment.

Private investment and operating capacity

The modernization project is supported by a US$143 million investment by operator Exolgan. The investment includes not only quay expansion but also the widening of the channel in front of the terminal, enabling the maneuvering of larger vessels and optimizing traffic flow along the access channel.

In addition to civil works, the investment plan included the acquisition of four new high-performance STS (Ship-to-Shore) cranes and the necessary yard equipment to boost handling efficiency.

For shipping lines and freight forwarders operating in the Southern Cone, Dock Sud’s expansion enhances the port’s competitiveness relative to neighboring terminals in Buenos Aires, offering greater draft and faster turnaround for services connecting Argentina to global markets. The consortium’s management attributes the results to a focus on logistics competitiveness and to the terminal’s strategic role as a hub for the outbound flow of Argentina’s domestic production.
