Week 202614

The Port of Ilheus handled 49,183 tonnes of cargo and received nine cruise ships in the first two months of 2026. Port operations generated 1.5 million reais in revenue during the period, marking a sharp 69.98% increase from the same period a year earlier. The figures were presented by the Port Authority Council on Tuesday morning (March 31).

Among the cargoes handled, operations involving more than 18,000 tonnes of cocoa and about 21,000 tonnes of nickel stood out. The performance underscored the Port of Ilheus’ economic and social importance for producers and for job creation in the region.

The meeting also highlighted infrastructure investments seen as essential to expand operating capacity, modernize facilities and boost the port’s competitiveness at the national level.

Among the issues discussed were deepening dredging, perimeter fencing, the implementation of an access control system needed to make the area customs-bonded, and a new quay reinforcement technique to be applied by port authority Codeba.

“The quay undergoes structural deterioration because of tidal movement. That affects not only the stability of the quay, but also increases the need for maintenance dredging, generating ongoing costs and weighing on profitability. We will now build a monolithic structure that will no longer deteriorate in that way and that will, in the future, eliminate the recurring need for maintenance dredging. This is an engineering solution designed to generate savings over the next 20 years,” Codeba President Antonio Gobbo said.

New managers

During the meeting, area chief and acting manager Gilberto Rodrigues introduced the new manager of the Port of Ilheus, João Batista Aquino, and reaffirmed his commitment to the development of port activity. The new chairman of the council, Pedro Henrique Pena, also took office, replacing Felipe Medeiros Lima. The change in leadership marks a new phase in the body’s management, with expectations of continuity in strategic actions and stronger institutional capacity.
