Anderson Pomini, president of the Santos Port Authority, approved the creation of a technical committee to seek consensus on the best route options for access to the Santos-Guarujá tunnel on the left bank of the Port of Santos. The initiative was approved during the first meeting on tunnel access routes, held on Thursday morning at the port authority’s office in São Paulo.
The committee, made up primarily of technical representatives, will bring together members of the Guarujá city government, Mota-Engil, the construction company responsible for the tunnel, terminals on both sides of the port, the port captaincy, the Air Force, the port authority itself and other sectors linked to the issue.
The search for the most efficient alignments for both Guarujá and the port, while minimizing the impact on the local population, will examine all available options. The review will take into account a number of factors, including the second phase of the Left Bank Perimetral Avenue works and the start of commercial flights at the Guarujá Metropolitan Airport, among others.
Thursday’s meeting was convened by the port authority in response to a request from the Guarujá city government, which sent two representatives: Planning Secretary Daniela Mariane and Mayor Farid Madi’s adviser Mauro Scazufca. Representing the port authority were also Infrastructure Director Orlando Razões, along with superintendents, managers, advisers and technical staff.
Pomini made clear that all options will be assessed by the technical committee and reaffirmed his commitment to making the Santos-Guarujá tunnel a project that can boost economic growth and job creation in both Guarujá and Santos. “That is why the search for the best access routes is so important at this historic moment for the future of the region and the country,” he said.
