Ilhéus port mill to get expanded infrastructure as restoration advances

Restoration work on the mill at the Port of Ilhéus is moving forward, with the project now set to include both the recovery of the existing structure and an expansion of the area inside the port complex managed by federal port authority CODEBA.
The expansion is intended to meet future demand from Jav Indústria de Alimentos, part of Grupo Maratá, which leases the site.
CODEBA President Antonio Gobbo visited the more than 30-year-old building and inspected the restoration of the mill, which had been inactive for more than 17 years.
“The mill will return not only with its original capacity, but also with six additional silos. This is a decisive investment for productivity gains, quality of life and production flow, with an impact across southern Bahia,” Gobbo said.
Vinícius Ferraz, the engineer in charge of the project, said the work involves 110 workers, including about 70 under direct contracts. He said the building showed signs of deterioration, but the main challenge has been repairing areas affected by marine corrosion.
“We have been working on repairs to the silos, the facade and some exposed steel. Our priority was to work on the roof, demolish what will not be used and repair the slab so we could begin work on the metal structure, then cover and close the building,” Ferraz said.
He added that frequent rainfall has affected the construction schedule.
“The last two months were very rainy, and our structures are outside the building, so that caused significant delays,” he said.
Equipment arrives
Equipment for key stages of the wheat milling process has already been unloaded in Ilhéus. The arrival confirms that the approximately R$120 million investment is under way and moving toward the operational phase.
The reactivation of the mill reinforces the strategic role of the Port of Ilhéus in the region’s economic development, creating new opportunities and helping attract business to southern Bahia.
