Production and consumption of animal protein to increase in 2026, according to ABPA

 Brazilian production of chicken, pork, and eggs is expected to end 2026 at levels higher than those recorded last year. This growth will be accompanied by an expansion of supply in the domestic market and increased per capita consumption of the three proteins. The new projections from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) were presented today during a press conference held in São Paulo (SP).

Among the sectors analyzed, chicken meat production could grow by up to 5.6% this year. For pork, the projected increase reaches 5%, while egg production should advance by up to 4.1%. In international trade, shipments of chicken and pork could grow by up to 10.3% and 5.9%, respectively.

Projections also indicate that the growth in exports will occur simultaneously with an increase in supply to the Brazilian consumer. Domestic availability of chicken meat is expected to grow by up to 3.1% in 2026, while pork availability could increase by up to 4.6%. Per capita egg consumption, in turn, is expected to grow by up to 4.5%.

“Projections indicate growth in production and per capita consumption of all three proteins. We will also have greater domestic availability of chicken and pork, simultaneously with the growth of exports from both sectors,” analyzes the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

CHICKEN MEAT – Brazilian production is expected to be between 16 million and 16.15 million tons in 2026. At the upper limit of the projection, this result will represent growth of up to 5.6% compared to the 15.289 million tons produced in 2025.

Exports could reach 5.875 million tons, a volume up to 10.3% higher than the 5.324 million tons shipped last year.

At the same time, the availability of the product in the Brazilian market should reach approximately 10.275 million tons, representing growth of up to 3.1% compared to the 9.965 million tons in 2025.

Per capita consumption is expected to reach up to 48.1 kilograms per inhabitant in 2026, compared to 46.7 kilograms last year, also representing an increase of up to 3.1%.

For 2027, initial projections indicate continued growth. Production could reach up to 16.6 million tons, an increase of up to 2.8% compared to 2026. Exports could reach 6.05 million tons, an increase of up to 3%.

Domestic availability is estimated at approximately 10.55 million tons, while per capita consumption could reach 49.4 kilograms per inhabitant, an increase of up to 2.7%.

PORK – National production could total up to 5.870 million tons in 2026, an increase of up to 5% over the 5.592 million tons recorded in 2025.

According to recent Datamar data, Brazil exported 35,219 TEUs of pork between January and May 2026. The chart below provides an overview of the figures recorded in recent years.

International shipments could grow by up to 5.9%, increasing from 1.510 million tons in 2025 to up to 1.600 million tons in 2026.

In the domestic market, the availability of protein is expected to increase by up to 4.6%, reaching approximately 4.270 million tons, compared to 4.082 million tons in 2025. Per capita consumption could reach 20 kilograms per inhabitant, compared to 19.1 kilograms last year.

For 2027, ABPA projects production of up to 6.050 million tons and exports of up to 1.700 million tons, with increases of up to 3.1% and 6.3%, respectively.

Domestic availability is expected to be close to 4.35 million tons, while per capita consumption could reach 20.4 kilograms per inhabitant, representing growth of up to 1.9%.

EGGS – Brazilian production is expected to reach 64.8 billion units in 2026, a volume up to 4.1% higher than the 62.253 billion units produced in 2025.

Per capita consumption will also continue to rise, from 288 units per inhabitant last year to 301 units in 2026, an increase of up to 4.5%.

Exports are expected to total 30,000 tons, a decrease of up to 26.6% compared to the 40,894 tons shipped in 2025.

By 2027, national egg production could reach 66.5 billion units, with growth of up to 2.6%. Exports are expected to continue growing, reaching 34,500 tons, an increase of up to 15%. Per capita consumption could reach 312 units per inhabitant, a growth of up to 3.5%.

“The numbers indicate continued growth in 2027. Initial projections point to increased production of all three proteins, as well as further increases in exports of chicken, pork, and eggs,” concludes Santin.
