Exolgan Dock Sud terminal reports normal operations after pier collapse

A partial collapse affected Pier 1 at Exolgan’s Dock Sud container terminal early Saturday, August 1, during a severe storm that hit the Buenos Aires metropolitan area.

The incident took place in an out-of-service section of the terminal, located in Puerto Dock Sud, in the municipality of Avellaneda, according to a company statement cited by Agencia Noticias Argentinas.

Exolgan said no injuries were reported and that access points for full and empty containers continued operating normally, without delays.

The company said it was working to determine the cause of the collapse and assess the extent of the damage. It added that it would provide further information once the evaluation is complete.

The incident occurred as heavy rains affected the Buenos Aires metropolitan area between the night of Friday, July 31, and the early hours and morning of Saturday, August 1.

Rainfall exceeded 60 mm and 88 mm in several areas, while some parts of the City of Buenos Aires recorded more than 100 mm in less than 24 hours.

The storm also caused flooded streets and disruptions in several municipalities of Greater Buenos Aires, including Avellaneda, Quilmes, Lanús and La Plata.

For shippers and logistics operators, the key operational point is that Exolgan said the affected area was outside regular service and that container access at the Dock Sud terminal remained normal. The company’s damage assessment will determine whether any further port infrastructure measures are required.
