Argentina exports to Brazil rise 4.7% in July, fifth straight gain

Argentina exports to Brazil rose for the fifth consecutive month in July 2026, reaching US$1.15 billion as sales of polymers, vehicles and dairy products helped sustain trade with the country’s top Mercosur partner.

According to a bilateral trade report from the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services, known as CAC, Argentine sales to Brazil increased 4.7% from July 2025.

The rise was driven mainly by higher exports of ethylene polymers in primary forms, passenger vehicles, motor vehicles for goods transport and special uses, and milk, cream and other dairy products.

Imports from Brazil moved in the opposite direction. Argentina bought US$1.42 billion in Brazilian goods in July, down 13.9% from the same month last year.

The decline was mainly linked to lower purchases of road vehicles, auto parts and accessories, and vehicles for goods and passenger transport.

As a result, bilateral trade between Argentina and Brazil totaled US$2.57 billion in July, down 6.4% from July 2025 and 1.6% below June 2026.

Argentina recorded a US$262 million trade deficit with Brazil in July. From January to July, the bilateral deficit reached US$1.26 billion, sharply lower than the US$3.49 billion deficit posted in the same period of 2025, according to CAC.

In containerized cargo, Argentina’s exports to Brazil rose 37.8% in the January-June period compared with the same period a year earlier. Imports from its Portuguese-speaking neighbor fell 17%. The chart below compares the monthly volumes recorded:

Argentina ranks as Brazil’s third-largest buyer

In Brazil’s supplier ranking, Argentina placed fourth in July, behind China, Hong Kong and Macao, with US$6.42 billion; the United States, with US$4.28 billion; and Germany, with US$1.41 billion.

As a destination for Brazilian exports, Argentina ranked third, behind China, Hong Kong and Macao, with US$10.67 billion, and the United States, with US$3.64 billion.

The figures confirm Argentina’s continued importance for Brazilian exporters, especially in industrial goods and automotive supply chains, even as Argentina’s purchases from Brazil fell in July.

At the global level, Brazil’s exports increased 6.2% year over year in July, rising from US$32.13 billion to US$34.12 billion. Imports grew 7.7%, from US$25.11 billion to US$27.05 billion.

That left Brazil with a US$7.07 billion trade surplus for the month, marking the country’s 17th consecutive monthly surplus.

For exporters, manufacturers and logistics operators, the July data show a more balanced trade flow between the two Mercosur partners. Argentina exports to Brazil continued to grow, while weaker imports from Brazil reduced Argentina’s bilateral deficit.

The trend is especially relevant for automotive, plastics, dairy and industrial supply chains, which depend on stable cross-border flows, predictable customs procedures and efficient road and port logistics between the two countries.
