Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd name first vessel to return to Suez Canal on joint AE12/SE1 service

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd confirmed that the Umm Qarn will be the first container ship deployed on their joint AE12/SE1 service, part of Gemini Cooperation, to resume sailing through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea. According to the two shipping companies, the vessel will transit the canal in both directions.

The confirmation follows an earlier announcement by the two companies outlining plans to reroute selected services through the waterway.

The Umm Qarn will depart Tanjung Pelepas on October 27 on westbound voyage 642W, marking its first sailing scheduled to transit the Suez Canal under the revised routing. Its first eastbound sailing under the new routing will depart Algeciras on December 5 on voyage 648E.

The updated AE12/SE1 service rotation will be: Ningbo – Shanghai – Tanjung Pelepas – Suez Canal – Algeciras – Koper – Rijeka – Algeciras – Suez Canal – Singapore.
