Hapag-Lloyd will introduce a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on long-term shipments from the East Coast of South America to a broad range of destinations in the Americas starting November 5, 2026.
The surcharge will remain in place for 30 days and applies only to long-term shipments, according to the carrier.
The PSS will cover cargo moving from East Coast South America to the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, the West Coast of South America, Colombia, Venezuela and Suriname.
The charges will be:
- US$500 per 20-foot dry container
- US$1,000 per 40-foot dry container
Hapag-Lloyd did not provide additional details on the reason for the surcharge in its customer notice.
The measure adds a temporary cost to long-term dry-container shipments originating on the East Coast of South America across a wide range of regional and northbound trades.
