Friboi, the beef division of Brazilian giant JBS, started operating a new unit in Mato Grosso, in the municipality of Brasnorte, with an initial processing capacity of 500 animals per day.
Present in more than 150 countries and with 37 production units throughout Brazil, the company invested over R$ 70 million in the acquisition and construction of the plant generating close to 300 direct jobs in the city.
“We believe in Brasnorte’s potential, and its importance to our cattle operation in Mato Grosso. We have invested not only in building an excellent plant with modern equipment and workflows, but also in training high quality local workforce with a focus on occupational safety, ”explains Renato Costa, president of Friboi. “We will continue to invest in all our plants in the coming years, ensuring the company’s long-term commitment to Brazil,” said the executive.
This is the first stage of investments in the Brasnorte plant, which in the future will increase its capacity and scope, and generate a further 900 job opportunities in the town. The initial objective of the plant is to help the company meet domestic demand.
Other investments
In 2019, Friboi invested in equipment modernization and work processes to improve production flows in its units.
This month, for example, the company will activate a continuous ‘freezing tunnel’ in Barra do Garças (MT), which will increase operational productivity. It has also increased capacity in its Mozarlândia (GO) unit. Also in January and March, two new hamburger lines will start operating in Campo Grande (MS), doubling production capacity. And in February, the company will introduce a second work shift at the Senador Canedo (GO) facility to meet rising global demand for animal protein – 350 new jobs are being created in the city. Total investments surpass $ 154 million.
Friboi has 45,000 employees in Brazil, with business units in 55 cities, and is responsible for generating over 180,000 indirect jobs.
