Last Friday (14/02), some carriers issued a statement informing customers of a surcharge on reefer containers. Maersk said that to maintain the quality of its services, it would apply the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Reefer cargo leaving the East Coast of South America (ECSA) bound for Asia from February 15, 2020 (with the exception of Taiwan, where the start date is March 15, 2020).
Meanwhile, CMA CGM reported that due to permanent congestion whilst docking in China, causing interruptions in services involving high operating costs and in order to maintain the quality of its service, it would implement a Port Congestion Surcharge (PCS) on all refrigerated cargo travelling from ECSA to Shanghai, Ningbo and Xingangand, amounting to US$1,250 per reefer container. The application of the tariff will begin on February 22, 2020 for Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay and March 14, 2020 for Brazil.
