Itapoá sees container throughput rise in 2019

In 2019, the port of Itapoá registered throughput of 439 thousand containers, with an emphasis on imports and transhipment. These cargoes registered 25% and 46% increases, respectively, compared to 2018. More than 217 thousand units were either imported or transhipped, the highest volume among Santa Catarina ports.

Transhipment cargo is usually handled by terminals capable of receiving large vessels, which is the case of Itapoá. The port has the only terminal capable of receiving ships longer than 330 meters.

Another highlight in 2019 was the increase in cabotage shipments. Cabotage shipments have grown annually since the beginning of the Terminal’s operations, and last year they broke new ground, exceeding 30 thousand units, a 24% increase in volume.

Consolidation of the port’s expansion, added to services offer faster import transit times, were the main factors for the volume registered by Itapoá.
