The volume of cargo carried by the company Trenes Argentinos Cargas (TAC) increased by 27% during the first 6 months of this year when compared to the same period last year. Thus, in the first half of 2020, more than 2.8 million tonnes of cargo were transported by rail.
In addition to this, when looking specifically at June, 620,000 tonnes were transported via train in the month – an increase of 37% in comparison to June 2019. Another positive fact was the reductions in derailments per kilometer. The drop was 31% compared to the first half of 2019.
To encourage this modality, the Argentine Ministry of Transport and Trenes Argentinos Cargas (TAC) jointly developed a comprehensive plan to improve the transport of goods by rail across the country, reducing logistics costs and increasing productivity. This year several works have already been carried out to reactivate railway sections and recover inactive wagons, among other activities.
