Brazil’s cattle slaughter increased in the third quarter

According to the Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE),cattle slaughter increased 3.6% to 8.28m heads in the third quarter of 2018, year-on-year. Beef production reached 2.1m tons in the same period, up 4.2% compared to last year, the organ said. The institute also reported that 11.52m swine were slaughtered in the third quarter, up 4.4% YoY.
Poultry slaughter fell 4% to 1.42bn in the previous quarter, year-on-year. Egg production reached its third highest in history (since 1987) in the third quarter of 2018, up 8% to 911.63m dozen year-on-year. Meanwhile, Mexico has authorized 26 more Brazilian meat packers to export poultry, the Brazil’s Agriculture Ministry said. With the latest addition, a total of 46 meat processing units can ship chicken to Mexico now. The country’s chicken exports to Mexico reached US$138m in the first ten months of 2018, according to the Brazilian government.
