Brazil police seize 702 kg of cocaine hidden in coffee cargo at Santos

Brazil’s Federal Police seized 702 kg of cocaine hidden in a coffee shipment at the Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo state, on Tuesday, August 18.

According to police, the cargo was bound for Istanbul, Turkey, with transshipment scheduled at the Port of Antwerp in Belgium.

The drugs were found during a joint operation involving the Federal Police, Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service and the Santos regional police division. The Federal Police said intelligence shared by Santos’ 4th Police District led authorities to inspect the container.

During the cargo inspection, drug-sniffing dogs from the Federal Revenue Service indicated the presence of narcotics. Agents then found the cocaine hidden among the coffee cargo.

After the seizure, Federal Police teams carried out further investigative steps and forensic procedures.

Police said an inquiry will be opened to determine the circumstances of the case and identify those responsible for the international drug-trafficking operation.
