Port of Pecém average monthly handling is on the rise

Expectations for 2021 are positive in Porto do Pecém, located on the west coast of Ceará. This is because the Ceará terminal handled 6,750,210 tons in the first four months of this year. Thus, it has already reached the monthly average of 1,687,553 tons – higher than the averages recorded in 2020 (1,461,074 tons) and in 2019 (1,198,284 tons), the year in which the Pecém port terminal recorded its best annual handling ever, with 18.1 million tons handled.

Monthly handling
In April, the Pecém Port Terminal registered 1,755,049 tons handled. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this was a growth of 44%. Still comparing with 2020, imports totaling 1,115,235 tons increased by 36% and exports totaling 639,814 tons increased by 62%.
Year-to-Date
The year-to-date handling at the Port of Pecém in 2021 resulted in 6,750,210 tons, 16% higher than the same period in 2020 when 5,844,296 tons were registered. Imports in 2021 (4,671,235t) were 20% higher than in 2020 (3,892,545t). Exports increased by 7% in the comparison between 2020 (1,951,751t) and 2021 (2,078,975t).
Navigation handling
Cabotage shipping totaled 3,757,010 t, a 25% increase in 2021 when compared with 2020. In cabotage imports, the main products handled were minerals (1,337,028 t); mineral fuels (372,304 t); cereals (181,645 t); and cast iron (169,637 t). The most exported cabotage products were cast iron (370,628 t); salt (176,357 t); mineral fuels (128,199 t); and products from the milling industry (65,948 t).
Long-distance shipping totaled 2,993,200t, a 6% increase in 2021 compared to 2020. There were 1,895,159 t (63%) of net bulk; 739,364 t (25%) of loose cargo; 199,060 t (7%) of solid cargo; and 159,618 t (5%) of containerized cargo. In long-haul landings, the main products handled were mineral fuels (1,733,709 t) and cast iron (173,871 t).
