Postal service initiates cabotage transport

This June, the Brazilian postal service began the cabotage transport pilot run. About 430 tons of material from the National Textbook Program – FNDE/Ministry of Education were shipped. The first unloading of part of the cargo took place on June 23rd, in Salvador/BA. The cargo ships are navigating along the Brazilian coast and calling at the ports of Suape (Pernambuco), Mucuripe (Ceará), and Manaus (Amazonas). This operation marks the company’s entry into this mode of transport.

The logistics consisted of collecting the cargo at the publishing houses/printers in São Paulo and moving them to the port of Santos. After unloading the cargo at Brazilian ports, it will be made available to the Post Office logistics centers in each capital and redistributed for delivery to schools and education departments.

According to the Postal Operations Director, Carlos Henrique de Luca Ribeiro, the public entity will evaluate the performance and the possibility of expanding the modality in other logistic operations. “The use of cabotage reinforces the postal service’s commitment to Brazilian society and the environment. The search for new modes of transport is one of several actions underway at the company, with a focus on its transformation and modernization”, said the manager.
